1900 "Cope's Golfers" Tom Morris, Narrow Version #2 SGC 60 EX 5. Offered is one of the key golf card collectibles from the closing year of the 19th century. As the 19th century closed, the popularity of golf was on the rise. A top "superstar" of time was "Old" Tom Morris who a four time British Open winner who made appearances in every Open up to 1896. The "Cope's Golfers" set, produced by Cope Bros. & Co. tobacco is very rare with single cards being offered only sparingly and Tom Morris is the "Babe Ruth" of the set in terms of status. In addition to rarity, the set is also prized for the highly detailed portraits and the important fact that this among the earliest sets devoted to masters of the fairway. Graded SGC 60 EX 5, this "narrow version" shows modest wear at corner tips.
