    Description

A loving tribute to the biggest event in American sports

1967-2016 Super Bowl Full Ticket Run of 50, All PSA Graded. It was December 5, 1856 that the New York Mercury coined the term, "the national pastime" to characterize the game of baseball. And clearly, for a dozen decades to follow, the sport was the alpha dog of the pack by every metric that mattered--fan base, marketing dollars, the relative fame of its leading practitioners. There simply was no contemporary football equivalent to Babe Ruth, to Ted Williams, to Mickey Mantle.

But the tide of American culture in the post-war era has trended toward speed, toward action, making our "national pastime" feel more and more like a throwback. That's part of its charm--a large part--and this hobby is, to a significant degree, an affectionate homage to that gentler pace of a day at the ballpark. It's clear that today the sport of football, with its thunder and flash, is the truest athletic expression of an America raised on the pumping strobe of MTV videos and blockbuster action films.

And, arguably, there is no date on the calendar as thoroughly American as Super Bowl Sunday, an event that serves as a liturgy to all that has come to define our nation, both good and bad, from elite competition to crass commercialism. No single event captures the attention of more American citizens, with television viewership outpacing even the balloting of Presidential elections.

It hasn't always been this way, of course, and this collection serves as the most effective tangible documentation of the contest's rise to prominence. By the time it reaches the auction block in New York, the lot will be 100% complete, including a full ticket from Super Bowl 50, which will be added by our consignor after he attends the Big Game. Thankfully, maintaining the comprehensive nature of the collection going forward will be a rather simple matter, as the bar code scanner has ended the long practice of gate-torn tickets.

All fifty examples are authenticated and graded by the experts at PSA, each ticket carefully selected for its aesthetics.
