Description
A rare player's ring from the franchise's last NFL Championship
1960 Philadelphia Eagles NFL Championship Ring Presented to Gene Johnson. "We'll never lose another Championship," second-year Green Bay Packers coach told his team after a tough seventeen to thirteen defeat at Philadelphia's Franklin Field. And the legendary Lombardi would keep his word, never again dropping a playoff appearance. This 1960 NFL Championship is considered one of the most consequential in the history of the League, sending the two historic franchises on vastly divergent paths. Green Bay would soon go on to earn its "Titletown" nickname with the most dominant decade in NFL history, and the Eagles would begin a Championship drought that lives on beyond the half-century mark.To the best of our knowledge, this offering represents the first and only opportunity for Eagles collectors to own the primary symbol of its last trip to the mountain top, a relic made all the more appealing by the final hurdle the team was forced to clear on the day after Christmas, 1960. This particular specimen belonged to second-year defensive back Gene Johnson, a ninth-round draft pick out of Cincinnati who recorded three regular season picks en route to that historic Championship contest.
The attractive design features a silver face with four green emeralds and a large genuine diamond at center. "Philadelphia World Champions" stands in raised text at the perimeter. Left shank announces "1960 NFL," while right provides a team logo eagle and engraving of attribution: "G. Johnson, 27." Moderate wear. Interior band is stamped "Josten 14K" and measures to a size ten.
