    Description

1958 Topps #62 Jim Brown PSA MINT 9. The Sporting News honored him with Rookie of the Year honors. Forty-five years later they declared him the greatest professional football player ever. The sixth overall pick for the 1957 draft might not have been the most elusive rusher who ever suited up in the NFL, but he was famous for being the toughest to bring to a halt. The Syracuse University star was the second leading rusher as a sophomore. A year later he averaged 5.2 yards per carry. Capping off his collegiate career was a unanimous first-team All-American selection and multiple school records. A all-around athlete, Brown played basketball, track, and lacrosse where he was also selected as a first-team All-American. His bone-rattling style earned him the NFL rushing title all but one of his nine seasons in the League, and his 1,863 rushing yards in 1963 remains a Cleveland Browns franchise record. He averaged an outrageous 5.2 yards per carry. His 1957 debut saw him leading all NFL running backs with 942 rushing yards. The first of eight years he would take that checkered flag during his nine-season career. His nine rushing TDs was likewise a League-topping figure for that freshman campaign. During his NFL career, the Georgia native was selected to the Pro Bowl each of his nine seasons, was named NFL MVP three times and was also a three-time winner of the Pro Bowl's MVP. After the dust settled on his tough and successful career, Jim Brown became an honoree in Canton's Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971. An immensely fierce spirit James Nathaniel Brown considered, after 18 years, coming out of retirement in 1983 to protect his all-time rushing record from a threat by Franco Harris, whose style of play offended his football sensibilities.

Here we present what is arguably the most significant post-war football rookie card in the football collecting universe in nothing short of exemplary condition. Graded PSA Mint 9, the card reigns as one of five known in Mint condition with not a single example rating higher. A fitting tribute for the man many consider the greatest running back of all time is the card that introduced him to a generation of young gridiron fans is one of the greatest entries of his rookie debut.
