Description

1948 Leaf Sammy Baugh (Red Jersey) #34 PSA NM-MT+ 8.5 - Pop One, None Higher for Red Jersey Variant! Presented is an extremely rare rookie card of an inaugural Pro Football Hall of Famer who was a passing revolutionary. When quarterback Slingin' Sammy Baugh started his professional career with Washington in 1937, the football was rounder than today and passing more difficult. According to the Washington Post's Michael Wilbon in quoting former NFL Films President Steve Sabol, "Baugh demonstrated that the forward pass could be an effective weapon rather than an act of desperation." In the fifteen seasons he played with Washington, Baugh helped to take pro football into the modern age. He led the NFL in passing five times and won two championships. In 1943, he led the league in completions, interceptions, and punting. Although Bowman has also produced a Sammy Baugh rookie card, this Leaf card has more scarcity and long-term value. Great colors and eye appeal. "Red Jersey" color variation. Graded PSA NM-MT+ 8.5. This is the one and only card graded NM-MT+ with none higher for this color variantion.
