Description
Mid-1960's Dave Wilcox Game Worn Jersey from the Dave Wilcox Collection. A most unwelcome sight to any opponent unlucky enough to find himself lining up opposite this home white San Francisco 49'ers jersey, the mood is much changed from a collecting standpoint to one bordering on outright joy. The jersey body of this hobbyist's dream piece is a classic white durene with the 49'ers' traditional triple red sleeve stripe pattern. The striping is embedded into the sleeve material as was customary during the era. The sleeves have been trimmed right at the lower edge of the bottom stripe and because there was no hem, minor curling has resulted and the lowermost stripe is not visible in its entirety. The numerals are unique to the 49'ers jerseys, highlighted by their stem-less bases and elongated sleeve numbers measuring 4+". The font style itself was used throughout the 1960's and for part of the late 1950's, save for the 1959 roads which were full stemmed block. The oversized sleeve numbers first appeared in 1960 and lasted until the mid-1970's. The number "64" designators found on chest, back and sleeves in red tackle twill are extremely well worn. The front "6" has a tear, the rear "4" has a major tear, the right sleeve numbers show tears and combat fatigue, and the left side set is amply worn. The tail sports the large "Wilson" label associated with the early to mid-1960's. Wilcox was a rookie in 1964, so the labeling in this jersey dated the jersey to Wilcox's first three seasons, or early in his eleven-year career which saw him elected to seven Pro Bowls. A rookie-era Hall of Fame jersey with fine wear, sourced directly from the player--what more could you ask for? LOA from Lou Lampson.Auction Info
