    Description

A Canton-quality gamer from the Hall of Fame's youngest inductee!

Late 1960's Gale Sayers Game Worn & Signed Chicago Bears Jersey, MEARS A10. He was nicknamed "The Kansas Comet" for his brilliance as a member of the University of Kansas Jayhawks' high-flying offense, but the appellation would take on a second meaning as the 1965 NFL Rookie of the Year burned with the brightest light in the professional game and then was gone far too soon. The injury-plagued Sayers cast his likeness in Canton bronze on the strength of just seven seasons of Windy City service--only sixty-eight contests--placing his game worn material among the most elusive of the Super Bowl era.

We find a spectacular example of that rare wardrobe here, a white durene beauty that reveals itself to be a beast as well upon closer inspection. The shoulder area of the garment is a Frankenstein's monster of jagged team repairs, bearing mute witness to the brutality of life in the NFL trenches. Number "40" is applied in navy on orange tackle twill at chest, back and sleeves, where the classic sleeve striping that follows the team to this day appears.

Lower left front tail holds proper "Wilson [size] 46" label, while lower right tail holds the first of two black sharpie signatures from the garment's original owner. The other appears atop the right shoulder. They rate 7/10 and 9/10 respectively. It's an absolutely spectacular representation from a bona fide Monster of the Midway, well deserving of its flawless MEARS assessment. LOA from MEARS, A10. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
