Description

Circa 1980-82 Warren Moon Game Worn Edmonton Eskimos Jersey. Despite putting up an MVP performance in the 1978 Rose Bowl in which his Washington Huskies defeated the favored Michigan Wolverines by a score of 27-20, the rifle-armed Warren Moon went undrafted in the NFL. Most gridiron experts believed that it was because Moon was black and refused to switch positions to tight end, as a handful of scouts advised him to do. Nevertheless, Moon opted for the Canadian Football League where he became an instant Edmonton legend, and led the Eskimos to an unprecedented five consecutive Grey Cup victories. Offered here is Moon's heavy cotton jersey from the early 1980's, which was the later part of his Canadian football career, and shortly before he headed to play for the NFL's Houston Oilers. Sporting a Pro-Style ribbed cross-over V neck, it has wide underarm gusset seams, typically favored by quarterbacks. Showcasing two team-instituted repairs, it presents the proper "Russell Athletic" [size] 48" tag in the tail, while the NOB is screened onto the back nameplate. Definitely a jersey style one would expect for play in the bitter cold of the northernmost North American city. According to our database of past auction results, the jersey is the first Moon Eskimos example ever to hit the auction block. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
