Description
Circa 1974 Harold Carmichael Game Worn Philadelphia Eagles Jersey with Repair & Unique Customization from The Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder Collection. For the longest time, one of the more curious omissions of the Pro Football Hall of Fame was Harold Carmichael. This was finally fixed in early 2020 when Carmichael was named as a Hall of Fame inductee. During his formidable years with Philadelphia, the wideout was the best at his position. Heritage has only sold only one other Carmichael gamer and because he can now use the letters "HOF" next to his name, we expect a spirited battle for this "Sand Knit size X Large" gamer. A two-inch repair is found below the front "7" digit. A more pronounced 4.25" unrepaired rip runs across that same number.Interestingly, there was a modification so that Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder could wear this during a skit on the NFL Today set. The nameplate was replaced with "The Greek" screened directly to the verso in single-color white. We did turn the jersey inside out and there was one loose thread from the original nameplate. The tail has Sand Knit exclusivity ("74" written in black ink) and size ("1" written) labels which are zig-zag affixed. Some of the white portion of the numbers has stained. Letter of provenance from Anthony Snyder. LOA from Sports Investors Authentication. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
More Information: The Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder Collection
He was the most famous and charismatic figure in the history of sports gambling, the first nationally-recognized advocate for an industry that had lingered in the shadows of the athletic world since its very beginning. From the world headquarters of wagering, the city of Las Vegas, Jimmy the Greek ruled the sports book as a benevolent king, courting his share of controversy along the way but clearly earning his throne as the sporting world’s most skilled prognosticator.
So much about the life of The Wizard of Odds feels prescient in the current climate of American sports, from the shifting political tides we see in the NFL and NASCAR to the relocation of the Raiders franchise to a shiny new stadium just off the Las Vegas strip, an unthinkable event back in Snyder’s day. This is the second installment of a personal collection decades in the making, and Heritage Auctions is proud to make it available to the collecting world. Each lot in this collection is consigned by Jimmy the Greek's son, and will be accompanied by his letter of provenance.
