Attributed to Sayers' career-high 205-yard rushing game!

Circa 1968 Gale Sayers Game Worn & Signed Chicago Bears Jersey, MEARS A10--Photo Matched! He was nicknamed "The Kansas Comet" for his brilliance as a member of the University of Kansas Jayhawks' high-flying offense, but the appellation would take on a second meaning as the 1965 NFL Rookie of the Year burned with the brightest light in the professional game and then was gone far too soon. The injury-plagued Sayers cast his likeness in Canton bronze on the strength of just seven seasons of Windy City service--only sixty-eight contests--placing his game worn material among the most elusive of the Super Bowl era.

We're pleased and privileged to present the very finest representation from that minuscule supply, a jersey definitively linked by Resolution Photomatching to Getty Image 88770104. While the caption to that photo does not specify a precise date, the yellow paint in the background clearly establishes Lambeau Field as the site, prompting the experts at Resolution to conclude in their detailed letter of examination, "Based on that information the photo was most likely taken during the game against the Green Bay Packers on November 3, 1968."

Check the stat sheets and you'll find Sayers at his Hall of Fame height that afternoon, his career-best 205 yards registered on the most unfriendly of terrain in a thirteen-to-ten victory at Green Bay. It would prove to be his last complete game of the 1968 season, as he'd tear his ACL and MCL the next week against the 49ers, injuries that would hasten his retirement three years later at age twenty-eight.

The lightweight cotton jersey is positively coated with jagged team repairs, a portion of which was utilized in photo matching. Sayers' number "40," one of fourteen now retired by the storied franchise, adorns chest, back and shoulders in two-tone tackle twill. Lower left rear interior tail holds proper "King O'Shea [size] 46" label. A perfect black sharpie signature on lower chest completes a faultless package. LOA from MEARS, A10. LOA from Resolution Photomatching. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
