    Description

Circa 1939 Texas A&M Game Worn Helmet Attributed to John Kimbrough. The passing game was dominating Southwest Conference Football during the late 1930's, yet a high-stepping back named "Jarrin" John Kimbrough was getting the most out of the ground game. This two-time All-America Texas A&M full back led the Aggies to perfection in 1939 in which the undefeated team was crowned National Champions of college football.

This College Football Hall of Famer had the running style of early greats such as Red Grange and Jim Thorpe, and was regarded as one of the most difficult running backs to bring down. Kimbrough finished second to Michigan's Tom Harmon in the 1940 Heisman Trophy balloting.

Kimbrough's professional football career was brief due to rare heart problems suffered during his early years of life but he later parlayed his gridiron fame and good looks into a Hollywood contract where he appeared in Western motion pictures. After serving in World War II as an Army pilot, Kimbrough returned home to his Texas ranch where he went into politics and served as a Texas Legislator.

The MacGregor leather helmet features a factory-stamped "AMC" on the rear (for "Agricultural & Mechanical College) and a winged front design in proper maroon and white coloring. Remnants of Kimbrough's number "39" is stenciled on the outside brow of the helmet, matching a stenciled "39" on the interior web suspension. Helmet displays great game wear with minor paint loss, but superb overall condition. A true museum-quality piece of college football history. LOA from Lou Lampson.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
