    Description

Circa 1910 Columbus Panhandles Original Team Photograph from The Joe Carr Find.
Joe Carr was a pioneer of early football. In 1907, Carr began dabbling into the sport he helped popularize. He organized a gridiron outfit from workers of the railroad shop where he worked. The team became known as the Columbus Panhandles and featured the famous Nesser brothers. In all, eleven of the twelve Nesser boys were on Carr's football team at some point.

Remarkably, this exceedingly important 7x5" rarity was narrowly spared burial in a public landfill when a self-described "junk picker" spotted an old scrapbook being unceremoniously tossed into a dumpster in Columbus, Ohio. The man loaded the book onto the back of his bicycle and rode home with an extraordinary Carr family archive. We believe the vintage is around 1910 by Carr's age. "Joe" is written and a line is drawn to Carr who is wearing a top hat. The edge has a few runs and the lower left corner is missing. Regular handling/surface wear is visible on the important early football photo. A small rip is visible on the lower center.
