Description

2012 Colin Kaepernick Game Worn Cleats & Glove from Patriots Game. Every so often you get to witness a paradigm shift in professional sports. It may not always be positive, like the Steroid Age of Major League Baseball, but it's always thrilling to see. The 2012 NFL season provided a decidedly more welcome change to the status quo, as a new breed of quarterback emerged to give defensive coordinators stomach ulcers as they scrambled to find answers to a question that they'd never before been asked. Together with Washington Redskins rookie Robert Griffin III, Colin Kaepernick have redefined the notion of the mobile quarterback. From Fran Tarkenton to Aaron Rodgers, there had long been a class of elite QB's able to buy time in the pocket with agility and elusiveness, but here was a pair with an unprecedented will and ability to venture into the danger that lurked beyond the line of scrimmage.

Presented are the cleats and glove worn in the victorious showdown with first-ballot Hall of Famer Tom Brady as Kaepernick put on a show equal to any produced by the New England Patriots legend. On a cold, wet night in Foxborough before a national television audience, the young 49'ers quarterback handed the Pats their first home December loss in a decade. This game he did it with his arm, his rushing held in check by extra attention at the line, leaving him able to consistently find the open receiver downfield. By the time the 41 to 34 victory was complete, Kaepernick had tossed four touchdowns and racked up 216 yards through the air. It was his fourth victory in the five games since replacing Alex Smith as starting QB.

The size thirteen Nike cleats in 49'ers colors still have clumps of sod stuck to the sole, and each is autographed in 10/10 black sharpie. The Nike glove, worn on the quarterback's non-throwing (left) hand is signed in silver sharpie on the palm. The jersey for this game will be sold in our April 2013 auction, so winning bidder of this lot will receive a photocopy of the letter for all material from that game. Full LOA from PSA/DNA (autographs). Full LOA from James Spence Authentication (autographs).
