1994 Bruce Smith Game Worn Buffalo Bills Jersey & Pants Photo Matched to 11/24 vs. the Lions. White micro-mesh jersey with "78" (front, back, and sleeves) and "Smith" (on verso nameplate), all screened on in blue and red. Meanwhile, blue and red ribbed trim adorns the collar and sleeve cuffs and the sides feature elasticized cream-colored nylon panels. There is also a spectacular trio of patches lined up in succession across the upper chest, including the Bills' 35th Anniversary patch, the NFL shield logo patch, and the NFL's 75th Anniversary patch. Tie-front pants date from 1998 and feature the NFL shield and Logo Athletic logos sewn on the front with "Logo Athletics" manufactures label in the waistband along with "78" in vintage black marker.Tremendous player customizations and game wear include tailored sleeves and hemmed tail (which provided a snugger fit and left less garment for offensive line men to grab onto), plus at least five significant team executed stitch repairs, numerous hit marks, paint transfers, and friction burns, all indicative of the aggressive defensive lineman's ferocious style of play.
John Robinson at Resolution Photomatching has conclusively matched this jersey to the 11/24/94 contest between the Bills and the Lions at the Pontiac Silverdome when he recorded three tackles.
Bruce Smith's football resume is jaw dropping: Eleven Pro Bowl selections, four AFC Defensive Player of the Year nods, two NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards, election to the 80's and 90's All-Decade Teams and 100th Anniversary All-Time Team, plus residency in both the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame. With the strong and faithful segment of Bills collectors in the hobby and the dearth of premium exemplars from the era, spirited bidding on this lot should be expected.
