1984 Steve Young Game Worn Los Angeles Express USFL Jersey with Equipment Manager Letter.
After a highly successful college career at BYU, Steve Young signed a record 10-year, $40 million contract with the USFL's Los Angeles Express, and joined fellow league superstars such as Jim Kelly, Herschel Walker and Reggie White. That interesting part of Young's career ended after the USFL ceased operations in 1986, and he was picked up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After spending his first two years in the NFL with Tampa Bay, Young was deemed a bust, and as a result his team opted for Vinny Testaverde in the 1987 draft.

The speedy southpaw out of BYU was then traded to the San Francisco 49ers in April of 1987 to serve as backup to legendary quarterback Joe Montana. Following an elbow injury to Montana in the 1990 NFC Championship Game, Young finally got his chance to start at quarterback in 1991. Despite a rocky start, where he battled through injuries and a quarterback competition with Steve Bono, Young eventually put together one of the most impressive careers in franchise history.

The eventual Hall of Famer comfortably slipped into this "Medalist Sand Knit size 46" jersey when was under center in 1984. Authentication is cemented with a signed letter from equipment manager Heckle Lynn. The LOA states: "The jersey you have in your possession is one of Steve Young's rookie shirts from his rookie season. It is game-used and one of the few styles he wore that first year." At least four contact/facemask marks are visible on the front shoulders. Three more marks are found near the upper left edge on the screened-on back "8" numeral. Stretch material is fitted under the arms. Dual Sand Knit size and exclusivity tags reside in the collar. Overall, the finest Young USFL gamer we have had the pleasure of offering, if not the best jersey of the lefty to reach the auction block. LOA from Los Angeles Express equipment manager Heckle Lynn.
