Description
1978-79 Mike Webster Game Worn, Signed & Inscribed Pittsburgh Steelers Jersey with Back-To-Back Super Bowl Seasons Use & 38 Repairs - Photo Matched! If you do a Google search for "the greatest football center of all-time," chances are that a photo of Mike Webster will pop up.The absolute best at what he did, no other offensive lineman ever meant more to the success of his team than Mike Webster meant to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team of the 70's. Athletic, ferocious and durable, he excelled at all facets of his discipline, protecting Terry Bradshaw for a decade and opening holes through which Franco Harris would gain nearly 12,000 yards.
Presented here is quite possibly the finest example of a game worn football jersey that you will ever encounter. Used in back-to-back Super Bowl championships seasons by a Hall of Famer and exhibiting an incredible thirty-eight team-executed repairs, this black Steelers durene exemplar, with gold/black/white sleeve striping, displays "52" on the front, back, and shoulders, all sewn-on in white tackle twill. "Webster" is affixed to the verso nameplate in gold tackle twill and Medalist Sand-Knit tagging is present in the tail, denoting exclusivity, size ("48"), and the year ("78"). Furthermore, the front "2" is signed and inscribed "Mike Webster, 1980 Super Bowl, Steelers 31 Rams 19" in 8/10 vintage black ink.
John Robinson at Resolution Photomatching has issued a conclusive photo match to a press event on 1/15/80, five days before Super Bowl XIV, and a probable photo match to Super Bowl XIV itself on 1/20/80 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, where the Steelers prevailed 31-19 versus the Los Angeles Rams to claim their fourth title! Also, a determination of probable photo match was also made to images from 10/28/79 versus the Cowboys at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
When he passed away at age fifty, due to chronic traumatic encephalopathy, it was estimated that the number of blows he absorbed on a football field was equivalent to 25,000 automobile accidents. If that figure is accurate, then this exemplar most likely absorbed the equivalent of about 1,000 of those accidents.
A four-time Super Bowl champion, seven-time First Team All-Pro, and nine-time Pro-Bowl selection, Mike Webster was named to the NFL's 1970's & 1980's All-Decade Teams, 75th & 100th Anniversary All-Time Teams, and the Pittsburgh Steelers All-Time Team.
