Description

1973 Don Maynard Game Worn St. Louis Cardinals Jersey and Jacket - Jersey Worn During Last Game of Maynard's NFL Career. A favorite target of Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath, Don Maynard was the man that "Broadway Joe" looked for first when fading back to pass. The very first player to sign with the New York Titans in 1960, Maynard was a key member of the Jets' historic Super Bowl III season, and his career was honored in Canton's Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987.

Offered here is the final jersey that the sure-handed Texas Western alum wore when playing during the first game of the St. Louis Cardinals' 1973 regular season, shortly before he retired. An extremely rare style, this white mesh shirt has two-color screened-on numerals and his name in single-color screened-on lettering on the back. Exhibiting light wear, it displays the proper "Champion [size] XL" tag in the tail.

Also featured is an attractive game-worn Cardinals sideline jacket that was used during the same era by an unknown player (possibly by Maynard, but there is no player identification present). Great sewn-on patch and lettering is showcased on the back, while a "Pla-Jac [size] L" tag is in the collar. Nice wear is exhibited. Super duo representing one of the greatest wideouts in AFL and NFL history. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
