Description

1967 Don Maynard Game Worn New York Jets Jersey--Photo Matched.
He was the first player to sign with the New York Titans in 1960, the team that would be rechristened as the Jets in 1963, selected by head coach Sammy Baugh who had been impressed with Maynard's talents after coaching against him in college. The offered jersey finds Maynard and the Jets finally enjoying the respect that had eluded them in those early AFL years, the style worn to glory in Super Bowl III.

We must make it clear that this is not Maynard's jersey from that most famous Big Game of them all, but Associated Press image #574039016134 pictures the superstar wide receiver wearing the offered garment in Ft. Lauderdale six days earlier as the team prepared for its Cinderella tale. We also have located a game photo (date unknown) of Maynard and Namath sharing a moment on the sidelines, the imperfect application of the chest number "13" clearly evident.

That lucky number appears in green tackle twill on front and back, and white on the sleeves, with "Maynard" standing in 2.5" block on rear nameplate. Sleeves of the durene beauty are custom cut, and this alteration is likewise evident in the photo match images. Lower left front tail is tagged "MacGregor [size] 42" beside a washing instructions label. Solid game wear evident. A spectacular Hall of Fame representation. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
