1965-66 Fred Biletnikoff Game Worn Oakland Raiders Rookie-Era
Jersey, MEARS A10.He left Tallahassee owning the Florida State Seminoles records for receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, entering the National Football League in the third round of the 1965 draft. Twenty-three years later, he'd join the bronze brotherhood at Canton as one of the greatest ever to play the professional game.
The presented jersey finds the superstar receiver at the very start of his NFL career, a fact assured by the number "14" applied in black tackle twill to chest, back and sleeves, digits he'd trade for his famous number "25" midway through the 1966 season. The game wear, characterized by the experts at MEARS as "heavy," would strongly suggest that this is the only road number "14" jersey Biletnikoff ever wore, and it's also noteworthy that no other example in either shade has ever surfaced. This is, quite simply, the earliest and finest Biletnikoff gamer on Earth.
Thrillingly, the white durene beauty survives in 100% original and unaltered condition, with the unusually small name on back and the full buttoned crotchpiece, where a "Sand-Knit Size 46" label resides. A few brown spots on lower front are almost certainly blood, and the numerals soft, faded composition suggest hot, sweaty wear.
Elite provenance is the final facet of MEARS' flawless assessment, as the garment is accompanied by a signed letter of provenance from Chris Sims, who served alongside Pat Kealy and Dick Romanski in the Raiders locker room. Sims himself attests that players received only a single home and road jersey each year, and that gamers were commonly carried over to subsequent seasons, bolstering the argument that this is one of two number "14" Biletnikoff jerseys ever constructed. LOA from MEARS, A10. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Letter of provenance from Raiders locker room assistant.
