    Description

1965-66 Fran Tarkenton Game Worn & Signed Minnesota Vikings Jersey - Rare Style! A highly athletic and exciting player who played the majority of his career in Minnesota, while making a brief stop in the Big Apple, Fran Tarkenton owned every major quarterback record at the time of his retirement. A nine-time Pro Bowler, and NFL MVP in 1975, the prolific Georgia alum was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1986.

Presented here is an ultra-rare style jersey that was worn by Tarkenton in the 1965-66 pre-season and possibly warm weather regular season games. The lightweight cotton shirt, displays two-color screened-on numerals on the front, back and sleeves and the proper "King O'Shea...44" label in the tail. It is signed on the back in heavily bled and faded black ink. Note: On the right sleeve, the "1" is no longer present and the "0" is partially disengaged at the top.

We discovered definitive images of Tarkenton wearing the road version of this style during pre-season in a magazine article (see image online only), but were unable to locate any of the home version, as pre-season photographs from this era are sparse. It is also very important to note that, during this period, the Cowboys, Redskins, and Cardinals were all experimenting with lightweight jerseys and screened-on numbers for pre-season and warm weather games. This fact makes the likelihood of this exemplar being both a pre-season and warm weather regular season gamer a distinct possibility.

Furthermore, this specimen may have also been worn by King Hill in1968. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA (autograph).
