    1964-65 Buck Buchanan Game Worn Kansas City Chiefs Jersey. The 1963 American Football League draft made Buchanan the first African-American number one overall selection in professional sports history, and the thirteen-season Hall of Fame career to follow validated the wisdom of the pick. Carrying nearly 290 pounds on his six-foot seven-inch frame, Buchanan was one of the most fearsome tacklers in AFL history, carrying the sideline-to-sideline speed of a sports car in the body of a Mack truck.

    An examination of the outrageous game wear apparent within this red durene gamer provides some insight into the violence of Buchanan's methodology as it boggles the mind with the understanding that injury sidelined the superstar Chief only once in 183 contests. That iron man endurance included an unbroken streak of 166 games, a period within which the two-season potential vintage of the offered garment is fully contained.

    The particular convergence of aesthetics and tagging finds Buchanan in either his second or third professional season, each of which concluded with selection to the AFL All-Star Game and the All-AFL second-team, as chosen by the nation's sportswriters. The fortunes of the Kansas City Chiefs rose in parallel with Buchanan en route to an appearance in the first edition of the Super Bowl in 1966.

    Dozens of team repairs give the shoulders and chest of the garment the look of Frankenstein's monster, occasionally even intersecting with the white and gold tackle twill number "86" that appears at chest, back and sleeves, one of ten numbers retired by the franchise. "Buchanan" stands across rear nameplate in 2.75" block. Crotchpiece has been trimmed of its buttons, but retains original tagging: "Rawlings, Gateway Sporting Goods, [washing instructions]."
