1962-67 Lou Groza Game Worn Cleveland Browns Jersey, MEARS A10 He was the most prolific points-scorer in NFL history at the time of his retirement after the 1967 season, having earned the distinction and the nickname "The Toe" for his elite kicking skills. A member of the 96th Infantry Division during the Second World War, Groza reported to Browns training camp in 1946 in army fatigues, helping to lead the Browns to the Championship that year, the first of eight he'd enjoy during his twenty-one seasons in Cleveland.

Presented is a jersey worn during the last six seasons of Groza's essential service to the Cleveland Browns, thus potentially inclusive of that unforgettable NFL Championship campaign of 1964 that represents the franchise's final taste of ultimate gridiron glory to date. The experts at MEARS characterize game use as "Heavy," and we find a scattering of team repairs to validate the claim, as well as wonderful softness of the tackle twill identifiers to suggest multiple games of sweaty wear and subsequent launderings.

That number "76" appears at chest, back and shoulders, one of only five numbers retired by the Browns franchise. While the vast majority of period NFL jerseys surviving to present day have lost their crotch pieces to secondary wear on the practice field, this specimen remains in 100% original and unaltered condition, the proper "King O'Shea [size] 48" and local Cleveland "Blepp-Coombs Sporting Goods" tagging appearing at the bottom edge of the crotch piece.

We believe this to be the only Groza representation to garner a MEARS A10 rating. LOA from MEARS, A10. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
