    Description

1960's Henry Jordan Game Worn Jersey. Henry Jordan was an All-American at UVA before coming to the Packers from the Browns in 1959. Coincidentally, Vince Lombardi also arrived that season, which started Green Bay's run to greatness. For eleven seasons, Jordan anchored the Packs' defensive line, making four Pro Bowl appearances and earning All-Pro honors six times. Extremely durable, Jordan missed only two games in his first twelve seasons. This green durene jersey is from the tail end of Jordan's career, with high probability from 1968. The long sleeved jersey is of correct color hue with an embedded nine-stripe sleeve pattern, which is one of the most famous and recognizable in NFL history. Of note is the presence of elliptical embedded sleeve padding which was a staple of Packers' durenes through the late '50's and '60's. Jordan's number "74" is affixed white tackle twill on the jersey front, verso and sleeves. The size "54" is slightly larger than Jordan's norm, but at 6' 2", 250 pounds, Jordan's frame with his massive shoulder pads would be in this range. In fact, this jersey was obtained in the 1970's from the private collection of Dad Brazier, longtime Packers' equipment manager. He always had sets which were a size or two larger than the norm for wear on cold weather days. His reasoning was that the players needed some extra room with the layers of thermal undergarments and for defensive lineman. Relatively loose fitting jerseys were not an issue because offensive lineman could not use their hands to block. This would help explain the relative lack of wear. However, the numerals exhibit quality surface softness and there is wear on the label. The tail tagging is the single "Sand Knit" style, designating "Size 54," which first appeared in 1968. While not designated as such, there is significant extra length (perhaps five or six inches). Packers' durenes usually had standard extra length but these cold weather jerseys went beyond the norm. This Hall of Fame representation lacks great wear, but based on its intended use, is still a fine representation of a Hall of Famer from the club's dynasty era. LOA from Lou Lampson.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
