1957 Jim Brown Syracuse University Bronzed Game Worn Cleat. Fantastic gridiron artifact comes to us directly from the Brown family, where it has resided for half a century until now. This high top cleat tore up the turf on the right foot of the man considered by many to be the greatest running back of all time, utilized during Brown's last season at Syracuse. After its service to the Cleveland Browns' first-round draft pick, it was dipped in bronze and affixed to a wooden mount by a Long Island, NY civic club, who added an engraved plaque at upper right that reads, "Presented to Jimmy Brown, Feb. 6, 1957 By Manhasset Post 304, American Legion." Very little game worn material predating Brown's professional career has surfaced in the market, and certainly none with such rock-solid provenance. A pair of holes on the instep of the cleat are the result of having been attached to the mount, and while the shoe has come loose it could easily be remounted if desired. Otherwise the cleat remains in marvelous condition. Letter of provenance from the Brown family member is included in the lot.
