1949-50 Kyle Rote Game Worn SMU Mustangs Jersey. When Kyle Rote was inserted in the Notre Dame game for Heisman winner Doak Walker, for Southern Methodist in 1949, the team's back-up was elevated to standout status and immediately became recognized as a superior Triple-Threat player. After Walker graduated in 1950, Rote became the team's starter and as a result, he was named as a consensus All-American in his senior year. The first overall pick in the 1951 NFL Draft, Rote wore this fantastic Durene jersey during the 1949-50 seasons with SMU. Made by Sand Knit, the garment is the manufacturer's lightweight, highly-sheened fabric in a bright red hue, which is slightly faded. It has long sleeves with an elliptical-shaped elbow reinforcement area, and the sleeve ends, and round neck collar are a continuation of the Durene material with a reinforced hem, but no added elasticity. The number '44' on verso is zigzag affixed in standard, full-block tackle twill. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
