2000 Tom Brady Professional Debut Ticket Stub (Patriots vs. Lions), PSA Mint 9. Years from now, the pandemic era of the sports collectibles hobby will be remembered as the period that the humble admission ticket finally got its due. While the subgenre stretches back to the earliest days of the industry, the past two years have seen tens of thousands of new collectors--and tens of millions of new dollars--flood into this field, driven by the same population-based mindset that has long powered the trading card market and, more recently, the non-fungible token (NFT). The ticket business is unquestionably one of the frontrunners of our thundering bull market.

Likewise mirroring the trading card ethos, earlier is nearly always better, the rookie/debut models being the examples drawing the most eyeballs and dollars. This Tom Brady specimen finds itself in fine company within this Platinum Night sale, joined by similar specimens from Jackie Robinson, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods and Lionel Messi. Each is expected to challenge hobby pricing records, particularly those standing alone atop the PSA population.

This is one such example holding that special distinction, the only stub of any format from Tom Brady's first professional snaps to soar to a dizzying Mint 9 rating. Surely any collector competing for ownership will know the story well, but the rookie QB from Michigan was pressed into service at the Silverdome in front of a Thanksgiving television national audience when Patriots starter Drew Bledsoe was injured during a 101-yard pick-six in the final minutes of an embarrassing rout at the hands of the hosting Lions. Brady would complete a single six-yard pass in three attempts before Coach Belichick decided that discretion was the better part of valor and punted it away on fourth down to let Detroit mercifully run out the clock.

Still in the running for his eighth Lombardi Trophy at the time of this writing, Brady would secure his first during the stunning rookie season he humbly began on November 23, 2000. And like the man himself, this rare and important relic hasn't seemed to age a day since, certainly one of the most important and desirable NFL tickets that exists. Encapsulated by PSA, Mint 9.
