Description

1965 Joe Namath Professional Debut New York Jets Ticket Stub, PSA EX-MT 6--Pop One, None Superior! Broadway Joe went 11-for-23 with 121 yards and a touchdown in his professional debut, a loss to Len Dawson and his Kansas City Chiefs. His arrival in the Big Apple would start the clock ticking toward perhaps the most glorious moment in post-war Big Apple football history, the New York Jets' underdog victory in Super Bowl III. The realization of Namath's widely ridiculed guarantee of victory in that contest is widely and properly considered the moment that solidified the legitimacy of the AFL among fans and sports journalists who had always seen the newcomer as a second-tier league.

In order to be completely clear, PSA calls it Namath's "NFL Debut" on their slab, but the American Football League had not yet been absorbed by its elder sibling. This is Namath's first professional game--his NFL debut would come in 1970. Seventeen stubs from this contest appear in the PSA population, and this gorgeous example stands alone at the top of that tiny census. Encapsulated by PSA, EX-MT 6.
