The only full ticket known from the first official NFL Championship game!

1933 NFL Championship Game Full Ticket from The Joe Carr Collection, PSA Authentic. The most significant football ticket on the face of the Earth? That's our assessment, and the evidence is compelling. Neither the PSA population chart nor the online archives of two decades of sports collectibles auction history reveals any other example of this spectacular rarity, a full ticket issued for the very first Championship game in NFL history.

Still unimpressed? Well, how about this--the ticket derives from the personal collection of Pro Football Hall of Fame executive Joe Carr, one of the most significant figures in the early history of professional football and NFL commissioner from 1921 until his passing in 1939. Heritage regulars will recall that Carr's archives were rescued by a "junk picker" last year, supplying our November 2016 auction with an incredible assembly of early football material under the heading, "The Joe Carr Collection." This offering ranks among the most significant of its contents, held back in order to take its proper place in our prestigious Platinum Night event.

Though NFL supremacy had been assigned previously, granted to the team boasting the best regular season record, this December 17, 1933 contest was the first time that the honor would be determined by a single gridiron contest. The creation of an Eastern and Western division in the 1933 NFL had been the impetus for the winner-take-all battle, setting the Chicago Bears (10-2-1) and the New York Giants (11-3) upon a collision course at Wrigley Field.

The twenty-five thousand spectators in attendance were treated to one of the most dramatic contests in the history of the sport, a see-saw battle featuring early legends Mel Hein, Ken Strong, Bronko Nagurski and Red Grange. The next day, the Associated Press described the twenty-three to twenty-one Bears victory as "probably the most spectacular game of the year," and "a brilliant display of offensive power."

The never-before-seen full ticket is punch-canceled but untorn, and bears a handwritten (and misspelled) "Joe Karr" pencil notation on verso as well as some other writing and a stamped, "Complimentary, Present at Pass Gate" advisory. A vertical crease near the left edge is reported in the interest of full disclosure, but does not visually distract and certainly must be excused in light of the singular rarity and importance of the piece. Encapsulated "Authentic" by PSA.
