1932 NFL Championship Game Program - One of Few to Exist! Ever since the National Football League began play in 1920, the league title had always been awarded to the team that finished the regular season with the best record. However, at the end of the 1932 season, the Chicago Bears and Portsmouth Spartans finished tied for first place. To determine the 1932 champ, the NFL arranged for an additional regular season game between the two teams that would count in the final standings. Amazingly, the game was played indoors due to brutally frigid weather at old Chicago Stadium and in front of 11,198 fans.Due to the limited dimensions of playing indoors, the dirt-covered field itself was only 80 yards long (60 yards between the goal lines), and the surface was less than ideal, providing terrible footing and very little room to work with for offenses. The result was a low-scoring defensive struggle, with the only touchdown of the game coming on a controversial Bronko Nagurski pass to Red Grange, which aided in giving the home team Bears a 9-0 championship victory.
Heritage Auctions is proud to present the first 1932 NFL Championship Game program ever offered at public auction, and it is one of only a few known to exist. In addition, the offered program marks possibly the only '32 championship book that wasn't burnt in the infamous Bears office fire of the 1960s. Exhibiting VG quality overall, the 7.75x10.5" cardboard program displays light writing on the cover and in the interior, while medium wear is demonstrated throughout. A true piece of NFL history, this amazing find will surely turn the heads of savvy collectors who have been in search for decades for one of these ultra-scarce artifacts.
