    Description

    c. 1910s John McGraw New York Giants Original Photograph by Paul Thompson. One of the most important and larger-then-life personalities of our national pastime was John "Little Napoleon" McGraw. He debuted as an eighteen-year old rookie with the 1891 Baltimore Orioles, and skippered his final game for the 1932 New York Giants, closing out his Hall of Fame career with 2,763 managerial victories, second only to the great Connie Mack.

As a Baltimore Oriole, under Ned Hanlon's managerial eye, McGraw was teammate to Wee Willie Keeler, Hughie Jennings, Joe Kelley and Wilbert Robinson. It was a squad that won three straight National League pennants including the 1896 World Championship. As the skipper of the New York Giants, McGraw fostered the talents of greats like Christy Mathewson, Roger Bresnahan, Joe McGinnity, Red Ames, Dummy Taylor, Dave Bancroft, Frank Frisch and many others. From 1904 through 1924, the Giants won seven pennants and three World Championships.

Captured here in a relaxed pre-game state, McGraw appears in 6.5x8.5" format. Light-to-mild wear is exhibited. Reverse features McGraw's name written in graphite in an unknown hand and a purple Paul Thompson stamp (used by the famed photographer's studio from the early-to-mid-1910s).
