    Description

"If you were a football fan in the late '60s and somebody said to you, 'Do you remember the run?,' it was just one run. It set O.J. apart from everyone."

1967 O.J. Simpson "The Run" Photograph. A single play amplified the trajectory of O.J. Simpson fame (later infamy) and made him a household name throughout America. Simpson's fourth-ranked USC Trojans were taking on the cross-town rival the number one-ranked UCLA Bruins with a chance to keep there National Championship dreams alive after falling the previous week to Oregon State.

With a shade under 11:00 minutes remaining in the contest, USC faced a third-and-seven at their own 36 yard line. The Trojan offense audibled to to put the ball in the hands of their dynamic first-year running back. "The Juice" cut left down the sideline and then back right to the middle of the field, weaving his way through an array of Bruins for sixty-four yards and a USC lead that they wouldn't let go of.

The offered 6.5x10" photograph shows Simpson as he is about make his way to midfield as coaches and teammates excitement grows on the sidelines. Front is rife with production markings and croppings while the reverse is mildly staining with an attached original newspaper caption, "FOOTBALL-OSU" & "(SIMPSON BREAKS FOR TOUCHDOWN)" stamped in black, the date "NOV 18 1967" in blue with red correction to "19" for the day it would run in the papers. Historic Images sticker barcode also present.

While Simpson's popularity would continue to grow throughout his Heisman winning season in '68 and subsequent NFL career that led him to the Hall of Fame before his much-publicized downfall in the 1990s, there is no doubting that his simple picture captured the ascension of one of the most iconic Americans of our times.
