    Description

1922 "Four Horsemen" of Notre Dame Wire Photograph. "Outlined against a blue, gray October sky the Four Horsemen rode again. In dramatic lore they are known as famine, pestilence, destruction and death. These are only aliases. Their real names are: Stuhldreher, Miller, Crowley and Layden." It was famed sportswriter Grantland Rice who forever immortalized these four collegiate gridiron greats, ensuring that generations to follow would always remember Knute Rockne's potent offensive core. They are pictured here in a definitive photographic portrait, snapped during their sophomore season and issued by the Associated Press to sportspages nationwide. Measuring 8x10" in size, the photo displays magnificently, with moderate creasing at lower right barely visible except at certain angles to the light.
