1906 Canton Bulldogs Original Photograph Postcard - Early Pro Football Betting Scandal. Founded in November of 1904 as an esteemed member of the Ohio Football League, and as a member of the National Football League starting in 1920, the Canton Bulldogs are one of the earliest professional football teams in history, and one of most celebrated among advanced gridiron collectors.

Widely considered as the equivalent to the New York Yankees in the early 20th century, the Bulldogs' 1906 squad is featured on this extremely scarce original photograph postcard and it represents the infamous squad that was alleged to have been involved in a betting scandal with the Massillon Tigers during the end-of-the-season championship.

This allegation was made by a Massillon, Ohio newspaper accusing Bulldogs head coach, Blondy Wallace and Massillon end, Walter East of attempting to fix the series between the two teams. The charges implied were that the Canton Bulldogs would win the first game and would then in turn lose the second game to build up a huge marketing hype for a third game which would be their "Super Bowl." Wallace vehemently denied these charges and to this day, nothing has been ever proven. In fact, Bulldogs ended up with a 10-1 mark, while giving up only 18 points throughout the entire season. To this day, that lone loss remains one of the great mysteries in professional sports.

Measuring at 3.5x5.5", it exhibits VG quality, with excess writing on the front and back, it is postmarked "November 22 1906." Extremely nostalgic piece of early football history.
