    Description

Circa 1939 Nile Kinnick Signed Real Photograph Postcard, PSA/DNA NM 7. "I thank God that I was born to the gridirons of the middle west and not to the battlefields of Europe. I can speak confidently and positively that the football players of this country would rather fight for the Heisman trophy than for the Croix de Guerre." - Nile Kinnick (excerpt from his Heisman Trophy acceptance speech)

Seven days short of his twenty-fifth birthday, Nile Kinnick's F4F Wildcat developed an oil leak over Venezuela's Gulf of Paria, forcing an emergency landing at sea. His body was never recovered. The first Heisman Trophy winner to die is by far the toughest autograph for collectors of this elite collegiate brotherhood, with examples surfacing at auction about once every two years. This is one of the only signed images of Kinnick in existence, and it was scribed by the gridiron legend in NM blue ink. Measuring at 3.5x5.5", the postcard has the proper "DOPS" RPPC stamp on back, which confirms it was produced sometime between 1925-42. Card exhibits a light bend at the bottom and light wear throughout. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, 7.
