Description

2000 Super Bowl XXXIV Trophy Presented to Gaylon Hyder. While the still highly collectible replica Vince Lombardi Trophy does surface with some degree of regularity upon the auction circuit, almost never do we encounter the genuine article such as is found here. This unmistakable prize was personally consigned to Heritage by the six-foot five, two hundred ninety pound defensive tackle out of Texas Christian, who found himself sharing a gridiron with Kurt Warner and Marshall Faulk that historic 1999 NFL season. The triangular base of the trophy holds a silver football at its crest, and is engraved, "Vince Lombardi Trophy, NFL, Super Bowl XXXIV Champions, The St. Louis Rams." The right panel is further engraved "Gaylon Hyder #94." A minor degree of silver loss to the figural football is noted for the sake of accuracy, but has minimal effect upon the display value, and certainly none upon the tremendous collectibility of this symbol of football excellence. Included in the lot is a 1999 Browns jersey issued to Hyder, though he was traded to the Rams before playing a down in Cleveland. The thirty-fourth Super Bowl proved to be one history's most dramatic, ending with Rams linebacker Mike Jones applying a game-saving tackle to Titans wide receiver Kevin Dyson at the one yard line as time expired. We believe this to be the first ever player's Lombardi Trophy from that memorable contest to surface in the hobby.
