1998 Barry Sanders Game Worn, Signed Detroit Lions Turf Shoes from the Last Home Game of his Career. As a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed running back out of Michigan State, Travis Reece joined his home state Detroit Lions in 1998. While spending literally hundreds of hours in running back meetings during his rookie season, Reece was fortunate to have the opportunity to work closely, and develop a special bond, with all-world speedster and eventual Hall of Famer Barry Sanders.

Unfortunately, in 1998, the bond that Sanders shared with the Lions organization would be labeled as anything but "special." In fact, "tragic" would be a more suitable label, as Sanders had become fed up with his team's lack of motivation and its losing ways, and he decided to call it quits.

Despite the fact that Sanders was still in the prime of his career, Reece said that Lions team members and the organization were well aware that 1998 would be Barry's final season. And while acting on that revelation, the young rookie took it upon himself to obtain a piece of Sanders' legacy by asking him for his Nike turf shoes that were used during his final game in Detroit.

One of the most historically significant Barry Sanders pieces to hit the auction block, the "[size] 10 Nike" turf shoes exhibit great wear from his 95-yard rushing performance against the Atlanta Falcons on December 20, 1998, at the Pontiac Silverdome. Photomatched by multiple images from the game, each shoe is signed in bold black sharpie, while the proper tagging is in the tongues. An absolutely perfect addition to any collection highlighted by a Sanders game-worn jersey or additional gamers from NFL legends. Letter of provenance from Travis Reece. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
