Description
1996 Green Bay Packers Super Bowl Championship Ring Presented to RB Calvin Jones. The Super Bowl is unquestionably the biggest event in American sports. It's the reason each player takes the field every Sunday. It's a fantasy most American children dream about in their backyards. But is also a major void felt by any retired player who never had a chance to compete on a championship squad. On January 26, 1997, the Green Bay Packers once again became World Champions by defeating the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI. And for as big as each and every Super Bowl has become through the years, this one held even more significance, especially in the eyes of Packer fans.
You see, Green Bay is by far and away the smallest city in the National Football League. It's owned by the fans, and is the only club remaining with the "town team" origin. The Packers dominated football from the 1920's through the 40's under head coach Curly Lambeau, and were the envy of the league in the 1960's under the tutelage of legendary head coach Vince Lombardi. Nevertheless, from the 1970's and up through the early 90's, the Packers were the biggest joke in sports, making it to postseason play only two times, in 1972 and 1982.
That all changed in 1992 when Green Bay hired the savior from Bill Walsh's San Fran coaching base, head coach Mike Holmgren. The team took another giant step forward in 1993 with the unprecedented free-agent signing of Reggie White, and quarterback Brett Favre showed skills and leadership at quarterback that had not been seen in Titletown since the Lombardi era. The Green Bay Packer were relevant once again.
Here we present the ring that running back Calvin Jones received for his contributions to Green Bay's Super Bowl XXXI championship team. A key member of assistant coach Nolan Cromwell's special teams unit, who provided the key block that sprung Super Bowl MVP Desmond Howard's historic 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the third quarter, Jones was a notable star for the Nebraska football program, before he was drafted in 1994 by the Raiders in Round 3 of the NFL Draft.
The ring exhibits Mint, unblemished quality throughout. Presenting 115 sparkling genuine diamonds, weighing 2.35 Carats, the ten karat gold showpiece features the Packers' famed "G" at front and center, while "World Champions" takes up the remaining top portion. "Packers 1996 Tradition" is noted on one shank, with "Jones 27 16-3" is noted on the other. The Jostens "diamond trademark" and "10K" is properly stamped in the band's interior and it measures a size 10. The Holy Grail for any advanced Packers collector, this marks a rare opportunity to obtain one of the most popular Super Bowl rings ever issued.
