Description
1995 Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl XXX Championship Ring Presented to Defensive Back Clayton Holmes.UPDATE: Please note that the Clayton Holmes wore number "47" for the Cowboys while this ring is engraved with number "41." The most likely reason for this discrepancy is an error at the production stage, as there was no other "Holmes" on that team nor any player wearing number "41" for the Cowboys that season.
While back-to-back Championships are typically enough to ensure some degree of athletic immortality, the third time is the true charm. When the 'boys reclaimed the Lombardi Trophy for a third Super Bowl Championship in four seasons, the mid-1990's squad entered an elite brotherhood with the 1960's Green Bay Packers and the 1980's San Francisco 49ers as the leading NFL power of its decade, stamping its name into the record books in bold type.
Presented is an important symbol of that age of dominance in the Lone Star State, the ring issued to the Cowboys' defensive back Clayton Holmes. Holmes started in six games at cornerback in 1995 before Deion Sanders came aboard, and in November the NFL suspended Holmes for substance abuse and he never played in the league afterwards. The 'boys properly remembered Holmes when it came time to order Super Bowl rings though, and here it is, the identical format that teammates Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin received for their considerable efforts.
Team owner Jerry Jones spared no expense in creating them, the massive face choked in real diamonds that tell the story of five franchise Super Bowl victories. At the time, it was the biggest Super Bowl ring ever created, with five carats of diamond weight and eighty-one diamonds. "Dallas Cowboys" stands in raised lettering at top and bottom. Left shank reports Holmes' name and jersey number along with the NFL logo, the score of the game, and the since-demolished Texas Stadium. Three more diamonds appear on right shank to add sparkle to the miniature Lombardi Trophies of the dynasty, while remembering those 1970's successes as well. "World Champions" booms from above, with the logo of Super Bowl XXX below. The ring is size twelve (12) and has "14k" engraved inside the band. Weight is eighty grams (80 g.). Light wear evident. No ring box.
