Description

1995 Brett Favre Sporting News Player of the Year "Tiffany Co." Trophy. Coming off his first MVP season, another Pro Bowl selection and a tough loss to the Cowboys in the 1995 NFC Championship Game, Brett Favre was still making a name for himself in the National Football League, as others still considered himself just one of the guys. You want proof? According to an Associated Press article written on May 5, 1996, the young gunslinger was honored at a luncheon while he was presented "The Sporting News Player of the Year Award," and he had to chuckle as his name was misspelled "Farve."

Here we present that well-documented blunder, which was beautifully created by famed jewelry and trophy manufacturer "Tiffany & Co." Standing at 9" in height, the hefty crystal showpiece was later replaced after the error was spotted, and it was later auctioned at "The Sporting News" Christmas dinner auction in December 1996.

One of two "Sporting News" MVPs won by Favre during his storied career, the origin of the publication's most significant award began in 1954, as Cleveland's Lou Groza was its first recipient, while Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers was named as the 2011 honoree.

This trophy exhibits Mint quality throughout and is accompanied by copied images of Favre receiving the award and a copy of a letter of provenance from "The Sporting News" Senior Vice President and Editorial Director John D. Rawlings. One of the most impressive trophies from the future Hall of Famer ever to hit the auction block, this piece will surely stand out in any high-end Green Bay Packers memorabilia displays.
