1994 Super Bowl XXVIII Player's Lombardi Trophy Presented to Kenneth Gant of the Dallas Cowboys. Among the most elusive of prey for collectors with a concentration in Championship hardware is the fabled Lombardi Trophy, the physical embodiment of gridiron excellence at the sport's highest level. Traditionally, only the full-sized "team models" are presented each year to the victors in American sports' most watched game, but Dallas Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones has never been one to stand on ceremony, and believed that each member of his team had earned his own personal Lombardi. Here we present the example presented to Kenny Gant, star defensive back and special teams expert.Unbelievably, the Trophy was sourced from a storage locker abandoned by Gant which likewise contained his Super Bowl XXVII trophy earned the previous season. That example realized close to $19,000 in a 2003 auction. The presented Super Bowl XXVIII survives in marvelous NRMT-MT condition, crafted to sixteen inches in height with a curved triangular base supporting a miniature football at the top. The logo of the NFL stands in a raised seal on the face amidst the engraved words "Vince Lombardi Trophy, Super Bowl XXVIII Champions, The Dallas Cowboys." One turn counter-clockwise reveals an engraved "Kenneth Gant 29," and a small number "30" at the lower corner, which we take to be some form of serial number relating to the initial production.
The 'boys thirty to thirteen victory over Jim Kelly's Buffalo Bills at Atlanta's Georgia Dome was the second of three World Championships earned over a four-season span to establish the greatest NFL dynasty of the modern era. Such a status safely ensures the future value of any material related to this glorious Lone Star era, so smart collectors and investors should take note.
