    1973 Notre Dame Fighting Irish National Champions Ring Presented to Paul Sawicz. The fall air in South Bend is filled with football. No other college football institution can boast the tradition like the the Fighting Irish does. From Rockne to Hornung to Staubach to Bettis, each generation has excelled on Saturday afternoons. In 1973, the Irish finished undefeated and beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl to claim their ninth national title. This size 10 ring was presented to offensive tackle Paul Sawicz for his great work. "National Champions" surrounds a royal blue stone with a team insignia while two sets of CZ's decorate the sides of the face. One shank has the score of the Sugar Bowl, participants listed and MacArthur Bowl reference. The other side the recipient's name, team emblem, player number and year raised. "Balfour 10k" is engraved on the inner band. Weight is twenty-six grams (26g.). A Notre Dame Balfour box attends.
