Description
The perfect season Super Bowl MVP lifts the Lombardi again!
1973 Miami Dolphins Super Bowl VIII Ring Presented to Safety
Jake Scott from The Jake Scott Collection. While a perfect
season undeniably requires some limited degree of good luck, this
return to the top of the professional football heap the following
season silenced any efforts to characterize that flawless campaign
a fluke. The Fins would lose just twice during the 1973 regular
season but thundered their way through the postseason, winning all
three games by more than a two-touchdown margin. The presented ring represents victory over the NFC Champion Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl VIII in Houston, where the Dolphins scored twenty-four unanswered points before finally allowing a single touchdown in the fourth quarter. This time it would be Hall of Fame fullback Larry Csonka claiming the game's MVP Award, but Scott would yet again provide a masterful performance under the sport's brightest spotlight, recovering two fumbles and returning six punts, each a Super Bowl record.
Presented is Scott's ring commemorating that return to glory for the Miami Dolphins. It is very similar to the 1972 model in design, but it doubles up on the authentic diamonds set in the blue stone of the ring face to symbolize the team's back-to-back achievement. Raised text at perimeter reads, "Miami Dolphins World Champions 72-73." Left shank identifies recipient by surname and jersey number at top and bottom of an enameled team logo. Right shank reads, "Super Bowl VII, VIII, Back to Back," amidst Lombardi Trophy imagery and engraved details of the games' results.
Interior band is engraved with Scott's facsimile signature and stamped, "Jostens 10K." The ring measures to a size eleven (11) and weighs thirty-seven grams (37 g.). Like Scott's perfect season ring likewise on offer in this Platinum Night sale, it presents in virtually pristine condition in original cylindrical ring box. Letter of provenance from Jake Scott's family.
