    The Cowboys' first NFL Championship!

1971-72 Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl VI Championship Ring Presented to Defensive End Tody Smith. The twelfth time was a charm for this Lone Star State crew, which finally planted its flag atop the NFL mountain at the completion of a dozen seasons of existence. Though the Cowboys had been the dominant force in the NFC East for six years as they entered Super Bowl VI, they had yet to shake the perception as a team that couldn't win the big game, a widespread impression only hardened by their error-plagued loss to the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl V. But their twenty-four to three domination of the Dolphins in New Orleans proved the doubters wrong, a victory that appears all the more impressive when considering it was Miami's final loss before posting the NFL's only perfect season in 1972.

Presented is the ring awarded to the Cowboys' first pick in the 1971 NFL draft, defensive end Tody Smith, who recovered from a collegiate injury to serve his new team ably in the second half of the 1971 regular season and the subsequent unbeaten playoff run. Identical in design to those awarded to Roger Staubach, Rayfield Wright and the members of the fabled "Doomsday Defense," the gorgeous creation features a genuine diamond-studded face (approximately 1.5 carats) and the logo blue star at center (minor chipping/scuff), encircled by raised text announcing "Dallas Cowboys, World Champions." Left shank provides a Cowboys helmet in miniature framed by "T. Smith" and his jersey number "85." The Lombardi Trophy and NFL logo joins text reading "1971, Super Bowl" on right shank.

Interior band is stamped "Balfour 14K," and measures to a size eleven (11). Total weight is thirty-four grams (34g.). Proud wear is evident, but the ring still displays marvelously. Our records indicate this is just the second 1971 Cowboys ring (excluding salesman's samples) to reach the hobby's major auction block. Original 1997 purchase paperwork.
