    Description

1970 Super Bowl IV Lombardi Trophy, Presented to Kansas City Chiefs Wide Receiver Gloster Richardson. Despite the American Football League's New York Jets shocking Super Bowl III victory the previous season, many sports writers and fans thought it was a fluke and continued to believe that the National Football League was far superior to the AFL. The Vikings entered Super Bowl IV as a 13-point favorite to beat the Kansas City Chiefs, but the AFL prevailed once again, and in dominant fashion, as the Chiefs defeated Minnesota 23-7.

Offered here is Chiefs wide receiver Gloster Richardson's personal Super Bowl IV trophy that he was given for his contributions in the Chiefs' convincing victory at New Orleans' Tulane Stadium. Standing at an impressive 18" in height, the stunning showpiece is one of the earliest presentation pieces from the Big Game's history, and its only the second Super Bowl IV player's trophy ever offered at auction. Exhibiting minimal wear throughout, it is engraved "World Professional Football Championship, Gloster Richardson," and it is accompanied by a signed letter of provenance from the Jackson State alum. A remarkable piece representing the final AFL-NFL World Championship Game before the two leagues merged into one. Letter of provenance from Gloster Richardson.
