Description

1969 Joe Namath Game Worn & Signed New York Jets Cleats. After making good on his widely ridiculed promise of Super Bowl III victory over the heavily-favored Baltimore Colts in the early weeks of 1969, Broadway Joe returned to action in the fall of that year as the king of the National Football League. You'll note from photography of that most famous edition of the Big Game that Namath wears this precise style, but punch-coding on each tongue, reading, "Riddell 10 D 69" suggests the heavy game use dates to the subsequent season, as Super Bowl III was contested on the twelfth day of the production year that coding establishes.

Beyond the soiling and scuffing one would expect from Namath's gritty playing style, we can also see the ghosts of adhesive from his standard practice of taping his shoes prior to kickoff. In every regard, these shoes are a perfect match to period video and photography.

A blue marker inscription on the left shoe reads, "To Ruth, Best Wishes, Joe Namath," rating 8/10. It's a thrilling offering from the absolute pinnacle of Namath's fame and abilities. LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from PSA/DNA (autograph).
