Description
Robinson and his Titletown teammates make it three in a row!
1967 Green Bay Packers Super Bowl II Championship Ring Presented
to Linebacker Dave Robinson. Like the legendary Mickey Mantle
before him, Dave Robinson knew nothing but World Championship glory
during his first three seasons of professional play, and this
stunning ring marks the last of them, and the beginning of a nearly
three-decade title drought for Titletown, the longest in franchise
history. The ring likewise marks the last game with the iconic
Vince Lombardi at the wheel of this gridiron juggernaut. This is a season most widely remembered for the NFL Championship game that sent the Packers to Super Bowl II, a painfully frigid affair at Lambeau Field forever after recognized as "The Ice Bowl." But two weeks later and perhaps one hundred degrees warmer, the Pack would face off in Miami against the Oakland Raiders as fourteen-point favorites over the American Football League Champs.
The bulk of football fans and pundits convinced of the superiority of the NFL to the AFL were granted a strong confirmation of that opinion as Green Bay dominated its overmatched rivals, beating the spread and putting Dave Robinson into a three-way tie (at the time) for most fumbles ever recovered in a Super Bowl game, at one.
The design is refreshingly elegant and understated compared to the modern leviathans of jewelry design, the trio of diamonds (rose cut diamond replacements, as Robinson removed the originals) representing the team's three consecutive Championships, the second and final three-peat in NFL history to date (the first being the Packers of 1929-31). The diamonds are set in a football-shaped green stone (some chipping) and edged by raised text reading "Green Bay Packers World Champions." The left shank announces the scores of the Ice Bowl (NFL Championship) and Super Bowl with crown imagery, a Packers helmet and the word "Challenge." Right shank announces "Robinson 89, NFL/AFL, Run to Win." Interior band is incised "14K" with the Jostens diamond logo, and measures to a size thirteen and a half (13.5). It is personally consigned to auction by the Hall of Fame linebacker.
Total weight is forty-six grams (46 g.). Other than the chipping of the green stone, no faults worthy of note are present. Ring is presented in its original hinged green velvet and gold satin presentational box, which shows significant storage wear. Letter of provenance from Dave Robinson.
