1966 Kansas City Chiefs AFL Championship/Super Bowl I Ring Presented to Sports Writer Bob Hurt, with Original Wood Box. No football fan, writer or player could have ever imagined how huge the Super Bowl would eventually become as an influential force in American pop culture. The annual event's television viewership is amazing, the commercials are intriguing, and the effect that winning can immediately propel a player's career into elite status. Offered here is an ultra-scarce 10 karat gold "Jostens" ring representing the 1966 AFL champion Kansas City Chiefs, which in a sense acted as a consolation prize from the premier Super Bowl.

One of the more historically significant pieces of football memorabilia we have offered, the fabulous memento was presented to notable Kansas sports writer Bob Hurt by AFL founder Lamar Hunt, as a token of his appreciation for promoting the league that rivaled the NFL. Presenting an impressive genuine diamond at the top, it has "Hurt 1966" noted on one of the shanks, while Kansas City 31 Buffalo 7, First AFL NFL Super Bowl" is on the other shank. Exhibiting light wear throughout, it is marked "10K Jostens" in the band's interior, which suggests that Hurt may have lost his original and this example is a replacement. That said, the original wooden presentation box is included, and it displays an engraved plaque on the lid that reads "Designed Expressly for Bob Hurt Kansas City Chiefs 1966 American Football League Champions Lamar Hunt President." Note: Lid has come detached from the lower portion of the box. Letter of provenance from the family of Bob Hurt.
