    Description

1962-64 Green Bay Packers Black Toes Up Nodder from The Glen Christensen Collection. Issued between 1962 and 1964, the Black Player Toes Up nodders are among the rarest in the hobby, and are the reasons for the void in countless advanced Green Bay Packers collections. Presented here is a beautiful 7" Packers nodder from the near-impossible issue. This offering is EX with three hairline cracks on the lower back of the helmet. This is only the second example we have sold from this elusive offering.

More Information: The Glen Christensen Collection

We all have a part of our past that we long for, a part that was special or helped shape us into who we are today. For Glen Christensen that was the 1960s growing up with the Green Bay Packers. It wasn’t just the game of football or the win/loss tally. It was the period, the magic of living outside, unlocked doors and riding your bike to wherever you wanted to explore that day. It was family time and backyard barbecues. And there at the heart of it was the Green Bay Packers. Glen had an immediate early connection to the Pack through his mother and father. His mother Germaine Pirlot Christensen was the first baton majorette with the Green Bay Packer Lumberjack Band from 1941-1945. She was hired on by Curly Lambeau himself after seeing her performance at a 1941 Green Bay East football game halftime. Glen’s father worked for the Green Bay company that printed the first Packer "G" helmet decals in the early 60s as a design artist.

In 1984, Glen uprooted from the only world he knew, and with his wife and two young daughters moved to Grapevine, Texas, a growing suburb just northwest of Dallas. He followed a career path that allowed him to grow one of the largest digital print and screen graphics companies in the United States. And while his family grew and his career took off, those Wisconsin roots were never forgotten. Sitting on the steps of Lambeau were still just as much a part of him as the life he lived and loved in Texas. And he wanted to connect with that.

In 1994, the collection that now encompasses two storage units and begrudgingly to his wife two full rooms of their house and has been designated the largest private display of vintage Packer memorabilia outside of the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame…started with a baton. Glen’s mother passed down the baton she had used at Old City Stadium in the presence of Packer immortals such as Curly Lambeau, Don Hutson, Tony Canadeo and Cecil Isbell so many years before. She also passed down her vintage 1940’s programs, field passes, Lumberjack Band photos and newspaper articles. The proverbial flood gates were opened. Glen started the quest to build a world class collection of Packer history. With every football, jersey, or pennant acquired, it gave him that connection to his youth. The collection was a physical means to have a piece of Green Bay and Wisconsin present in his Texas home. The unending drive to collect and preserve rare vintage Green Bay Packer history and memorabilia is deep-seated in Christensen and spurred on The Glen Christensen Collection of today. The collection has been featured in countless magazines, newspapers, as well as on tv and online. Christensen was a 2017 finalist for the Green Bay Packer Fan Hall of Fame and a 2021 inductee to the Sports Collectors Digest Hall of Fame.

Today, the journey continues but in a different way. While he is always open to acquiring a new item, the days of hunting through boxes in the back of abandoned warehouses are starting to be replaced with days of sharing the collection with family and friends. When the Packers play away in Dallas, news crews and local fans will come and fill his rooms, taking in the breadth and rarity of the collection. And it may not happen every time, but just like Glen you can see their eyes make that connection to the days gone by.
