1956 Walter Camp Memorial Trophy Presented to Paul Hornung. Widely considered the greatest all-around player in the long and distinguished history of Notre Dame football, Paul Hornung became the fifth Fighting Irish-man to earn the Heisman Trophy in 1956, and the first player ever to claim the honor as a member of a losing team (2-8). The highly versatile Golden Boy led his team in passing, rushing, scoring, punting and return yardage while claiming second place in interceptions and tackles on defense. In 1957, he'd be selected by the Green Bay Packers with the first pick in the NFL draft.

The reissue of Hornung's Heisman (there are four in total) sold at auction in 2012 for $173,000, and this is the most significant collegiate award to emerge since then, the Walter Camp Memorial Trophy issued to him as the collegiate back of the year. It is the only one of its kind. Like the Heisman, the impressive display features a sturdy figural ball carrier atop a base bearing an engraved plaque. It reads, "Walter Camp Memorial Trophy Awarded to the Back of the Year, 1956, Paul Hornung, by The Touchdown Club of Washington, D.C."

The trophy measures eighteen inches (18") in height and tips the scales at a hefty fifteen and a half pounds (15.5 lbs.). Minor storage and handling wear is apparent, as is light tarnishing, but these do not detract in any way from the considerable aesthetic appeal.
