Issued to wide receiver Bob Schnelker, with his letter of provenance

1956 New York Giants NFL Championship Ring. It was Spanish philosopher and essayist George Santayana who wrote, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." The Chicago Bears learned this lesson the hard way as they faced off against the New York Giants on an icy Yankee Stadium landscape in the 1956 NFL Championship Game. The two iconic franchises had met under identical circumstances twenty-two years earlier just across the river at the Polo Grounds, an event remembered in history as "The Sneakers Game" for the footwear that gave the hometown team the advantage on a surface frozen too solid for cleats to penetrate. While the original edition saw the trailing Giants make the switch at the break and return with twenty-seven unanswered second half points, the result of the 1956 rematch was never in question, the sneaker-clad Giants cruising to an easy forty-seven to seven victory as the hapless Bears (both literally and figuratively) never managed to gain any traction.

Here we present the spoils of that cold war presented to wide receiver Bob Schnelker, who wore number "85" for Big Blue on the unforgiving tundra where Don Larsen had pitched his perfect game just three months earlier. An elegant and tasteful relic in comparison to modern Championship monstrosities, this ten karat gold ring sports a genuine diamond set into a blue stone on the face, encircled by raised text announcing, "N.Y. Giants, World Champions, N.Y. 47 CHI. 7." Left shank offers the silhouette of a quarterback behind a Big Apple cityscape with the number "19." The year is completed with "56" beneath the logo of the NFL at right.

The name "Bob Schnelker" is engraved in script at interior band, which measures to size ten and is stamped by jeweler "Dieges & Clust." Condition is marvelous, suggesting Schnelker wore the ring only on special occasions. Included is his signed personal letter of provenance. Letter of provenance from Bob Schnelker.
